Horst Schmidt
Horst Schmidt has more than 25 years in the MTDM industry in senior management roles. He currently holds the position of Industry Research and Commercialization Associate for the C-4 program and works out of the University of Windsor. The C-4 program is directed at bringing leading-edge university research to industry for commercialization and matching university research expertise to industry’s needs.
In previous industry positions, he led a mould building company from a 25-person shop in a 17,000 sq ft facility in 1985 to a fully vertically integrated 130,000 sq ft tooling facility with over 200 people. He was also involved in developing a fully integrated plastics company serving the automotive sector that employs over 1000 people in five facilities. Success in these companies was based on using, deploying, and developing the latest in technology and processes; then continuing to maintain this leading edge position by continually updating and/or replacing existing technologies with the most advances available. When this did not meet their requirements, Horst was involved in the development of new technologies to meet their needs.
He has been involved with the Canadian Tooling & Machining Association (CTMA) over the past 20 years, during which he has held various voluntary executive positions within the organization and he currently holds the position of immediate Past-President.
Horst is also a founding board member of the Canadian Machine, Tool, Die & Mould Federation; Cofounder of the Yves Landry award winning Moulding Youth For Industry program (a pre-apprenticeship training program administered by the CTMA); and he served for a number of years on the Premier’s Advisory Council for education during which it developed the new standards for the metalworking trades. At St Clair College Horst has been on the metal cutting advisory committee for a number of years and he also sat on the Advisory Board for the Ford Center of Excellence and is a Past-President of the German Canadian Professional Association.

David
Glover
David Glover was “born into the trades” so
to speak. His grandfather and father started Harbour Advanced
Machining Ltd. back in 1972, so it was only natural that, after being
around machinery since he could walk, he would eventually enter the
trades himself. So in June of 1997 David started his tool making
apprenticeship. Since then he has been very active at Harbour
Advanced Machining Ltd. moving into Quality Control, Machine Tool Building
and Repair. He currently spends his days as Sales Manager with
the company. Along the way David has been very active in the
community and with the Canadian Tooling & Machining Association. He
spent several years as the CTMA Windsor Chapter Chair at which time
he took a lead role in insuring the success of the then CTMA’s
Safety Group Program before its merger into the Canadian MTDM Federation. Currently,
David is still very active with the Windsor Chapter of the CTMA and
is a member of the Board of Directors for both the CTMA and the Canadian
MTDM Federation.
