Safety groups program pays dividends
A group of companies that participates in the Safety Groups
Program sponsored by the Canadian Machine, Tool, Die & Mould
Federation have achieved excellent results, reducing their
collective lost time injury frequency by 47.14 per cent and
their lost time injury severity by 30.77 per cent. This
has earned them another rebate from the Workplace Safety
and Insurance Board(WSIB)of $150,006.32, bringing their
four-year rebate total to $513,429.49.
Workers at these companies are safer, and in addition the firms’ NEER ratings
are improved as there is a reduction in costs associated with claims management.
The Safety Groups Program promotes health and safety in
the workplace through mentoring, the pooling of resources,
and the sharing of best practices. Member companies are encouraged
and supported as they develop good health and safety programs.
At the start of each year, each company selects five ‘Elements’ to
initiate or improve upon and then participate at meetings,
learn from presentations, and share ideas on how to put these
initiatives into practice. Rebates
are distributed based on the group’s success in implementing
the chosen safety initiatives.
The companies and their employees are being congratulated
and commended for their commitment to reducing workplace
injuries at a special rebate presentation ceremony on November
16 at the Elm Hurst Inn in Ingersoll, Ont.
Companies interested in joining our 2008 Safety Groups
Program are invited to attend an upcoming information session
being held November 21 in Windsor, Ont., or December 6 in
Mississauga, Ont. For details and to register for one
